The quote that I live by by Shawn - February 2014 Scholarship Essay

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” –Aristotle. This is the quote that I live by. In order for us to be successful in life I believe that radical changes do not need to occur but instead building a foundation that is able to withstand any obstacle. The success that I am searching for is only attainable through consistency and dedication. In my profession in the Marine Corps, I am in the communications field.

Even though we cross train with every military specialty, we must excel in our given field. Each day as we arise to a different day we must stay in constant pursuit of perfection. This is possible through our rigorous training and how our schedule is built. On an average day we wake up at 0430 to begin our day. At 0500 we begin our calisthenics and warming up for the day. We finish around 0600 and we our show time to the shop is 0715.Since my unit is one that emphasis physical readiness we are poised to workout 2-3 times a day and two hours per session.

This is only a portion of my lifestyle in between of balancing school, family, and my martial arts. I am thankful that I am able to stay active because it doesn’t leave much time for me to feel down about any circumstances that may come my way. Also I believe when I perform every task or treat everyone in a respectful manner, a spirit of gratitude for life consumes me.
