You guys are the future! by Shaunacy - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

After showing the future freshman around, I would lead them into the auditorium and give a short but powerful speech before I let them leave.

Good afternoon you guys, thank you for choosing Horizon Science Academy. In case you missed it, my name is Shaunacy Fifield and I will be graduating this year so unfortunately, you will not see me around when you guys officially start your freshman year but I would like to take the time to tell you a few things before I send you off. As aspiring freshman, you may already know that high school is going to be a little different compared to when you were in middle school. You guys will soon have eight separate classes and will be in charge of deciding some of your electives which can vary from sociology to computer programing. Of course, the workload is going to be a little different depending on the teachers you are assigned to so be ready with separate notebooks for each class.

Now I know that some of you are scared but trust me high school is nothing to be afraid of. Here at Horizon Science Academy we take great pride in making everyone feel welcome so do not worry, you will all have a place here. As a college Prep school, you guys will be introduced to our college counselor Mr. AG who will guide you toward your overall goal by going over FAFSA, ACT/SAT, College Credit Plus, college applications and of course basics such as graduating with your diploma or honors diploma. Taking two years of a foreign language class is mandatory to graduate, you have the choice of either Turkish or Spanish during your freshman year so pick the one you will enjoy most, do some background research on them before choosing.

Our school does require uniforms which you can buy on our school's website, you will also need solid black shoes. We have this dress code to ensure that bullying does not occur between students, over their attire. Our school also has many wonderful clubs so I recommend joining at least one during your freshman year. Joining a club will also benefit you when applying to colleges so it is, in fact, worth your time.

I can not just send you off with one piece of advice because you guys are going to need all the advice you can get, so I would like to announce as my final note, that you guys are the future! So get out of your comfort zones, do something new, stay focused, have fun, definitely do not procrastinate, and make those dreams into a reality! Thank you for coming in today and I hope you all have a wonderful freshman year.
