A Balance of Time by Sharon - August 2022 Scholarship Essay

Navigating college as a first-generation college student has so far been difficult. It has not been easy finding a school-life and work-life balance. I want to challenge myself to find time to attend the TA's ( teaching assistant ) and Professor's office hours. The previous year I had trouble due to my on-campus job, not being able to coexist with various office hours.

Emailing professors does help to a certain extent, but I would like to develop a personal relationship and receive more than help understanding topics. Attending office hours will enormously improve my knowledge about the topics covered. But also, I have the opportunity of receiving advice from personnel who have already graduated and are continuing their education. Advice that I could honestly use in my daily life as a student.

Currently, I am taking summer classes and working a part-time job. I can attend some office hours and have noticed an improvement. However, I am afraid that when the 2022- 20223 school year starts, I won't be able to find a balance between school and work, but I am not discouraged and am optimistic that I will accomplish my goals.

It has always been a dream of mine to have the privilege to attend college and learn as much as I possibly can. I have made it this far and will make it even further, and I plan to do so by finding solutions to what can be considered "small" stuff, such as attending office hours regularly, but to me, it is a much bigger goal that I will accomplish.
