Studying at its best! by Shannon - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

How a person studies and what they are studying for is unique for each individual. For one, it might be rereading a passage until he or she needs thick reading glasses. For another, it might be making flashcards with key terms and definitions.

Personally, I do not use either of these methods. For my Anatomy and Physiology class, I like to repetitively review the chapter powerpoint and print out labeled and unlabeled diagrams to study for the test. Then, I place both the blank and labeled diagrams into a clear plastic sleeve. Using a dry erase marker, I can now practice labeling the diagram. Since Anatomy and Physiology is a difficult subject to learn, repetition is vital for success. The requirement of my teacher for a chapter summary to be submitted each week further helps with the memorization of the material.

My study methods vary for every class that I take. College Algebra required the careful working of homework problems and the taking of notes during class to study for my next test. Principles of Economics required careful note taking and careful reading. Each study method has allowed me to pass with A's in each of these classes. Whatever class a person might be taking, their method of studying for it will be just as unique as their own fingerprints.
