The Life of a Highschool student choosing his major by Shakil - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
As a high school student growing up around abuse, I firsthand know the devastating effects it can have on families. The pain and the lasting scars that abuse leaves behind. It was during this time that I knew I wanted to make a difference in the lives of those who were struggling and vulnerable. It was through my personal experience with abuse that influenced my decision to major in Social Work. I felt a strong calling to help those who were experiencing similar challenges and to advocate for their rights and well-being. I wanted to be a voice for the voiceless and a support system for those who felt alone and powerless.
Through my own struggles and experiences, I developed empathy, compassion, and a deep understanding of the importance of social work in creating positive change in our society. I realized that by pursuing a career in social work, I could make a meaningful impact on the lives of others and contribute to building a more just and compassionate world.
Choosing to major in social work was not just a career decision for me, but a personal commitment to using my own experiences to create a better future for those in need. I am dedicated to making a difference and advocating for justice, equality, and healing for all individuals, no matter their background or circumstances. My personal journey has shaped my passion for social work, and I am excited to continue learning and growing in this field to better serve and support those in need.
