Benefits of the Computer by Sevin - February 2018 Scholarship Essay
Technology has instigated many issues in the world, such as cyberbullying and illegal hacking. Yet it has played a significant role in improving the functions of society. Computers, particularly, are a crucial part of technology advancement, and they’re continually getting more involved in students’ education.
When I was in fifth grade, all my essays were hand-written. I am currently in twelfth grade, and all my essays are now required to be typed, which means I need a computer. They are either submitted online or printed out to be turned in. With this development, students no longer have to worry about teachers struggling to read their handwriting, and they can type as fast as they would like. Because of the advantageous speed of completing essays through the computer, hand-written essay assignments will most likely cease to exist in the future.
Numerous schools around the world are recognizing the computer as a useful, beneficial tool for education. Paper quizzes can be converted into online quizzes. Missed lessons for absentees can be found on class websites. Emails can be sent to multiple people at once. Students can enroll in online courses. The computer also provides YouTube videos explaining how to find the integral of a function, what happened in the Progressive Era, and other educational topics. As long as the computer has internet connection, an endless amount of various resources are available for students to utilize in their academic journey toward success. A majority of schools even have separate classrooms with computers where students are free to work on online assignments or quizzes during their own time.
The relationship between the teacher and the student is strengthened through the use of computers. I frequently email my teachers whenever I’m struggling on an assignment. Emails can be sent instantly, allowing students and teachers to communicate more efficiently. If teachers and students are more connected, the students can sufficiently gain more knowledge in a positive way.
Computers have remarkably impacted the way students obtain education. Since the usage of computers are still increasing today, I believe schools will continue to rely on computers for assisting students with their education, even when it’s 2038. Today, software engineers and computer programmers are working to further improve the computer and its internet connection, boosting the potential for computers to be a life-long advantage in helping students learn.
