My Life with Aviation. by Seth - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

In an instant an air traffic controller looks away instantly, two planes try to land at the same spot. The two have a catastrophic collision sending the planes and all passengers on board into the ocean or sliding down off a runway. That is a possible outcome of a distracted air controller. How would they recover from a situation like that, Knowing that it was his fault that has cost thousands lives? Air Traffic controllers are responsible for ensuring safety and effective movement in the sky.
These are the situations that have always run through my head ever since I was a child. I’ve always pondered these intense decisions that air traffic controllers have to make everyday. The job is intense but rewarding and as someone who is passionate about aviation I am excited to major in it. The idea and study of aviation has always been a subject I was fascinated by.
I’ve always wondered about what all it takes for everything to go flawlessly . I would watch endless videos of pilots, Engineers, and flight attendants, just trying to dive deeper and deeper into the subject. I felt driven to learn every little detail. Anytime I would go outside and see an airplane, I would just visualize myself flying in some form. Whether it be as a pilot or a passenger, I’ve always been compelled by flight operations.
Going through school and life researching all the possible career paths,air traffic control has always seemed to be where my passion lies. I still have a burning desire to learn as much as I can about aviation and air control. I long to be in an overlook tower helping aircrafts as they come in and out of the airport; Feeling the euphoric thrill rush through my body watching the planes takeoff and land. I would love to learn how the Traffic controllers make a life-altering decision in a split second while dealing with multiple aircrafts. As someone who tends to thrive under pressure and is good under fast paced circumstances, I feel I would be an excellent air Traffic controller.
With this in mind I desire to further my education in aviation and one day be an Air traffic controller. As I get older, some interests tend to come and go however aviation has always seemed to be where my mind always goes back to. I desire to learn as much as I can in school and I Know I will succeed in the study of aviation. I am curious and extremely goal driven and I hope to bring new ideas and creativity to the field and campus . I feel confident that I will succeed in this field with my eagerness to learn. I strive to study as much as I can in this field.
