From Robots to Kids by Seth - January 2017 Scholarship Essay

I'm a geek. There is no question about it. As such it was only a matter of time till I was drawn in by the engineering club my school hosted. It only took this brew of gear-heads and code junkies alike, but I was truly at home. It was here I knew exactly what I wanted to do in my life. I knew what, as dramatic as it may sound, my destiny was and the legacy I wanted to leave behind in this world. A previously unrefined ambition I carried was honed so as to fuel the fires of a one track mind. However not so many people have found something like I did, something that rings in perfect harmony with their soul, and unfortunately not everyone will.

Yet, gaining this excessive passion granted me insight to how lucky I actually was. I didn't have to twist and turn at night as college approached. I didn't have doubts that the rest of my life was going to be a stinking rat race. I wasn't scared I was making the wrong choice. I was able to look to the future with a brash attitude something akin to how an explorer would look to the horizon, wonderment and confidence in his gaze.

I wanted to give this gaze too other young students, so I did. I have gone to a myriad of schools, captivating incoming freshman in the rambunctious world of robots, the playfulness of programming, and the complexities of circuitry.

Often times it is stated that we are born too early to explore the galaxy and too late to explore the Earth, however to see a spark of curiosity ignite in these incoming students proves that there other frontiers to conquer, and to give these children the possibility of these frontiers is the best way I can give back to my community just as the engineering club gave one to me.
