Proud by Selena - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was little I have always dreamed about the day I would go to college. I imagined that when I went to college, I would do something I loved. At that time I was still thinking about what I wanted to do and that hasn't changed one bit. I have always wanted to become a police officer, of course I had a dream of becoming a singer too but I figured if I want to do something to help people this is the way to go, so that is what I have chosen because helping people is way more fun than being a star and not getting that chance very often. And plus being a star is definitely a long-shot. You always picture what your life will be like, you always picture that one day you'll do something to make your family proud and that is a goal of mine.
In my family not a lot of people has graduated and went on to college to get a degree and do that job. My goal is to change that and become someone I have always wanted to be. I want to be able to say that, in my life, I had no regrets. Not a lot of people can say that, you have to take chances and that is exactly what I'm going to do. My family has been very encouraging to me throughout my entire life and even more my Senior year. They have been there when I needed them to be. They have believed in me like I need them to and that has helped tremendously. I have tossed up between nursing and Criminal Justice the past two years. And when I took a dual credit class for Criminal Justice, I realized that's what I wanted to do after high school, part of that was because I got a better grade in that class than I did in my Anatomy class my Junior year but that was only a small part of it. I want to help people and in both occupations you get that chance but in being a police officer you get a lot of chances and that is why I wanted to do it. After I turn eighteen I plan on shadowing a local police officer to get a feel for the job. Then I am planning on attending Missouri Valley College and majoring in Criminal Justice and play some basketball. After that I plan on going to a police academy and getting certification for everything and then, hopefully, get a job at my hometown police station. I want to make my family proud of me but most importantly I want to make myself proud, and I feel like this is the route to go.
