The Best Book of 2020 by SEBASTIAN IONUT - October 2020 Scholarship Essay
The best book I read this year was James Patterson's Witch & Wizard. The rundown of this book speaks of two teenagers, Whit and Wisty, living their normal teenage lives when all of the sudden their scene of normalcy swipes 180 degrees in the opposite direction. They are both incarcerated in the middle of the night by their cruel government's police, the New Order. They have no clue why they are being arrested and they are scared and confused beyond belief. The New Order's goal is to arrest all children who they think bear magical powers, and jail them in order to wear out and dim their magical capabilities. For Whit and Wisty though, the New Order's plan fails when the two teens' intense magical potential and triumphal tactics allow them to take on the secret police and escape from prison.
The reason I chose this book is because the action thrills the reader. The events in the story are frantic and gripping of one's attention. Unlike some books which tend to have a boring and dull plot, the characteristic which Witch & Wizard has of being more hair-raising and miraculous, definitely makes the book enjoyable to read because it has the audience ready and prepared to take in some fun content. Nobody wants to read a stodgy book, so Witch & Wizard gets the job done by having the reader on the end of his chair, looking forward to reading what crazy scene comes next.
