Although others do not advise using social media as a learning technique, educating one's self through social media has many benefits that I have experienced personally. Social media helped me create my own opinions and views on current and past issues in our world. It is a great way for me to learn outside the classroom and keep an interest in the subject. It is also a great way to learn through others. In social media, you are able to see what others believe or voice; therefore, it has made it possible to connect with others globally and it connects classroom discussions to real life. It is a wonderful way to see real-life situations/circumstances.

However, there are some downsides to learning through social media. Learning through others can lead to misguiding information. It is possible that the information one is learning can be untruthful or incorrect. It is also possible for information to be one sided. It is important to learn about both sides of a piece of information or story to ensure one is obtaining the full/complete story. One other downside I have experienced personally is biased information. It has caused me to believe that I should have the same opinion as the person I am learning information from.
