Savannah, As A Professor by Savannah - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

I have always imagined myself to by a college professor at some point in my life, however the subject I would teach has changed frequently. I’ve seen myself as an literature professor, a German professor, a philosophy professor, and an environmental science professor. As a right now, though, I can see myself as a European history professor, primarily because I happen to know an awful lot about European history myself.
Besides my own knowledge of the subject matter, I immensely enjoy discussing history of all varieties in my current status as a student. I feel as though history is of paramount importance to the longevity of the human race as whole. Through my own historical education, I have learned invaluable life lessons (including not to underestimate the power of nature, not to overlook an opponent that seems of little importance, and to not allow yourself to be controlled by the will of others- all of which can be learned from the long and illustrious history of the European continent), that I believe can be taught to and learned by anyone. Furthermore, everyone has heard the saying “those that did not learn from history are destined to repeat it,” which I find to be true in almost all cases. I feel as though it is my moral obligation to warn people of catastrophes that can easily be avoided by turning our eyes to the past, a moral obligation that I believe would grow more urgent should I become a professor of European history. Furthermore, I am prone to very passionately speaking about all things history, and I believe that all students needs professors that are almost embarrassingly passionate about the subjects they teach.
Though I can still see myself teaching a variety of topics, I concede that I am best suited to teach European history simply because I am so knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter- and history in general. However, I still have a good many years before I should take up the mantle of teaching at the collegiate level, or even if I wish to teach at the collegiate level.
