Make a Good Impression by Sarah - November 2014 Scholarship Essay
Congratulations, you’re a freshman in high school! That was a few years ago for me, but I still remember how nervous I was. The best advice I can possibly give you is to make a good impression. I’m not talking about with your fellow classmates either, I mean with your teachers. Although you should try to be on good terms with the people around you, being on level ground with your teachers is very important.
The main reason to be on good terms with a teacher is grades. For example, if you are on the borderline with a grade at the end of the semester, and you are on good terms with your teacher, they will most likely bump you up to the next letter grade. Not only that but they are the ones who grade your papers. There are some teachers that, if they don’t like you, will take points off of your assignments for no reason. Even if you can’t stand the teacher, try to stay under their radar so they can’t give you grades you don’t deserve.
Another reason to be on good terms with your teachers is because they can help you later on. You are a freshman now but once you are a senior you will need teachers to write you letters of recommendation for college and scholarships. The more teachers you have the more variety you have for recommendations. Having a variety to pick from may not seem like a big deal but it really is. Some teachers are busier or more scattered than others. Therefore, the more teachers that like you the easier it is to find a teacher that is organized and has the time to get the job done.
In addition to all of this, you will enjoy your classes more if you get along with your teacher. I’m not saying that you will get along with all of them but for those that you do; it can make even a boring class into a fun class. The more you get along with your teacher the more you can joke around with them. Besides, it makes the school day go by a lot quicker.
Overall, being on good ground with your teachers makes life easier for you and for them. You won’t mind going to their class and they won’t dread you coming to theirs. You also have a better chance to get good grades, have fun, and even have someone to turn to later on down the road.
