Generations by Sarah - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
There are various reasons I go to college, and when I think about it, a lot of them have to do with serving the Kingdom of God as well as gaining opportunities, success, and security for myself and my family. But, if I had to choose one word to describe it all, it would be generations.
As a music major and worship leader, I want to gain the skills and knowledge I need to perform, compose, and lead a worship service or fill in on an instrument whenever it is needed. I want to use and train the gifts I’ve been given to serve and honor God and people, however I can. I want to be able to generate the best quality music I can for worship and for healing people.
I am also referring to generations as the age groups that follow years after I am gone. I go to college not only so my immediate family may thrive, but so my grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great, grandchildren may thrive. I think about how fortunate my sister and I are to have been brought up in a family where our mother earned a difficult degree, and while my dad didn’t get to finish his degree because of complications with his family, my sister and I still get to thrive because of their hard work. I only want to pick up where they left off and improve living situations for not only my blood line, but my community around me.
