A new start by Sarah - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
My spring semester of freshman year was difficult to say the least. I was deep depression over some family issues, I was in a toxic relation with someone who made me feel worthless, and my anxiety was at an all time high. I did very poorly in that semester, I even failed a couple of classes. I had little to no motivation in doing any of my school work or studying, not being involved in my community . I had not been interested in my major, feeling like I was going into something I was no longer interested in anymore.
Starting my fall semester of my sophomore year I knew I had to do better for myself in my life and in my academics. I explored my options, talked with my advisors and mentors and found out that marketing is actually what I was interested. I started going to the library after every single one of my classes to study and do my homework. Although it takes me longer than the average person to remember terms and concepts, I worked as hard as I could. I made sure I remembered the terms and concepts fully and gave 100% in all my classes. During my finals week and the week before I would spend a countless number of hours in the library studying for all my tests and finishing all my homework and essays I needed to do. I was able to pass all my finals, even being able to get a perfect grade on a few of them. Later after all the final grades were posted and I saw I not only passed all of my classes, but did very well in them.
I have never felt more accomplished in my academic career than in that moment when I saw my final grades. Knowing that all my hard work paid off in the end, gives me motivation to do even better in my future semesters at Florida Gulf Coast University.
