Dinner With A Hero by Sara - February 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I could have dinner with any historical figure, I would choose Franklin D. Roosevelt. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one of the best presidents in history, and is one of my favorites. He was such an inspiring man who overcame so many obstacles and made a huge difference in America. He was a great leader of our country.
FDR was president from 1933 to 1945. He served four terms and led us through two of the greatest struggles in American history: the Great Depression and World War II. I would love to have dinner with this man. I can only imagine the words of bravery, courage, and wisdom he would have to share. He was a very likable man and America loved him. He knew what he was getting into when he became president and he was able to lead our country out of the Great Depression. He fought corruption head on and was able to turn our economy around. I admire Roosevelt for his ability to take charge and get things accomplished. He was always doing something and he had many great ideas including Social Security and the United Nations.
I respect this man greatly not only for his courage but for his respect for others and his perseverance. He certainly didn’t have it easy. During his presidency he had polio and was mostly constricted to a wheel chair. Despite this, he was still able to make himself appear strong for his nation and do his job to the best of his ability.
I would want to have dinner with Franklin D. Roosevelt because I believe that he would have lots of wise words for a student in my current position. Roosevelt was Harvard educated and very intelligent. Not only would I enjoy the company of such a friendly man, but I would be interested in hearing his advice for a young adult ready to start college for an advanced degree. He would be able to give advice for how to get through school and about how to make a difference once I get out into the work place. He would offer wisdom to overcome any obstacles and how to stay motivated and keep coming up with new ideas. He would be able to encourage me to help people however I can like he did.
