Dinner with Ronald Reagan by Sara - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

Growing up, the question of "who would you like to meet if you could meet anyone dead or alive" comes up on multiple occasions. My answer to this question has always varied; I think to myself, "who do I admire most that has made history?" and I always report with different answers. In this essay, however, I am going to say Ronald Reagan.
Ronald Reagan was not only a man of honor and respect, but one who made history many times. One of his most significant speeches include, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" This speech was regarding the resistance of the Soviet expansion while he was in Berlin. Moreover, Ronald Reagan was a fantastic president. One of my favorite quotations ever is "If we forget we are a nation under God, we will be a nation gone under." I think this speaks volumes about Reagan's personal beliefs and faith. This resonates with me because I believe our country is now in a desperate time of need. We need faith as individuals, cities, and especially as a nation if we are going to even think about repairing our ties with Israel, bringing our education levels up, and touching the amount of debt we have so largely immersed ourselves in. If I could choose any former president to be re-elected into office, dead or alive, I would vote Reagan back into office immediately. I believe that when he originally was elected into office, he was put in tough situations but he did everything in his power to fix things to the best of ability and neither complained about the complications nor placed more government into the lives of innocent citizens who are just going through their everyday lives. I reckon that is another thing I admire about Reagan, his knowledge of when and where excess government is needed and also what is more important that our federal budget recognizes.
Also, Ronald Reagan covered two bases: he was a Hollywood actor and then became the President of the United States. Both which are huge accomplishments for anyone to complete in a lifetime. He was also a genuinely good husband to his wife, Mrs. Nancy Reagan, and cared for her even when he was tremendously packed with engagements. I have had the chance to see a couple of the many love letters he and she exchanged and they are beautiful. It makes me hope for a love one day like theirs. Dining with him would be eye-opening; I think he could give me much appreciated wisdom and pass on knowledge that would serve me to be a better citizen.
