Sun Riser by Sara - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

The sun glistens through the window piercing my eyes as a beeping noise fills my ears. That must mean it is time to get up. Early enough for the sun to be risen, but not too late where the day is wasted. Early enough for me to spend time studying before my 8 am exam, but not too late to cram it all in. Waking up early, knowing I got a good night sleep, not only allows me to feel refreshed, but more productive with my daily tasks. I do not mind staying up late in order to complete tasks, but I always know when to stop, take a step back and reflect on the fact I can barely keep my eyes open and therefore, not producing the best quality work that I could. After some rest, I have a refocused mind. A mind where that when my alarm goes off at 6 or 7 am, I am motivated. By staying up late, especially if I have homework, work, or other duties that need to get done the following day, I am a slug and all I think about is taking a nap or going to bed, which distracts me from the necessities I need to get done. By waking up early, I add an hour or two to my day to get done, what needs to get done. Instead of staying up late, I find myself being more productive being an early riser as I feel I have more time to do the things I have to in order to get them done.
There’s something about seeing the sun rise and set each day. Where the warm colors caress your face and glow. This reminds me to appreciate every morning and enjoy the world around me. I feel at peace knowing I was given an opportunity to get up, and fulfill my dreams of becoming a nurse. And why wouldn’t I start my day sooner in order to do so? If I get up early, work hard, study, and do my tasks, then I know I will have a more productive day.
