Qualities to Inspire the World by Sara - December 2018 Scholarship Essay
When most people think of the Nobel Prize, they think of Albert Einstein, Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Teresa, and many more amazing historic figures. The Nobel Prize is a prestigious honor. Those who have been awarded this amazing prize have changed the world. Society looks up to these amazing leaders and tries to imitate their qualities. If I were to award the Nobel Prize, the recipient must possess leadership and kindness.
Leadership is a broad statement, and some people spend their lives studying leadership principles. Plainly stated, a leader is someone who inspires through actions of honesty, commitment, communication, and hard work. They care about those they lead. Leaders will stand up to something they did wrong, and work to fix their mistakes. These people always have the end in mind, and set meticulous goals. According to Vince Lombardi, “Leaders aren’t born, they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. That’s the price we have to pay to achieve that goal or any goal.” An individual with these qualities should receive the Nobel Prize because they are a good role model for society.
Kindness is perhaps the most essential trait required for happiness. According to Mother Teresa, a Nobel Prize recipient, “Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” Kindness battles selfishness. Being kind will open your eyes to others in need, and you will be ready to help and serve them. Impacting someone’s life by being kind is changing the world in a small way. If the recipient of the Nobel Prize can change the world in a major way, then they should also have the courage to change it in small ways, just by being kind. Someone who is awarded such a prestigious honor should be rooted in kindness, to prevent them from flaunting their award and acting arrogant.
The recipient of the Nobel Prize should be kind and possess leadership qualities. This will ensure that the world has appropriate role models. If society sees that kind leaders are being awarded, they can strive to emulate those qualities in their own lives. This will create a kinder, happier world to live in.
