An elective I feel should be a required class, especially in college, is any language that interests a person. I feel that as I got older, I realized how important knowing, or even just understanding a language that is not your own is. In high school, I took the required language classes, Spanish specifically, but never took it as seriously as I should have, which I have regretted since then.

The reason I regret it is because of how much I could have benefited not only myself but other people, such as the customer that come to my work that could only speak and understand Spanish. Knowing that I could have helped and made those people feel seen in a place that may not be comfortable to them is something that I want. Not only will it help certain people around you, but it can also help a person traveling to a place where things that were learned in the class can be used. An elective that can go through basics and things that can get you through being in a place where you do not feel comfortable is ideal and can be something that you can continue to learn, either on your own or in more classes that may be provided.
