Education: The Pinnacle of Success by Samuel - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

From birth each child is constructed upon the many rules and procedures of social acceptance, usually through parenting, trial and error, and experience. In order to fully assimilate into society, an adequate education is required. An appropriate analogy would be of a conveyor belt, where students are continually being added to and built by the continual stream of knowledge given by teachers. Education is the prime process that every student must follow through in order to become a productive member of society.

When most people think of education they think of a constant access to new knowledge. Students are opened up to an array of new ideas, concepts, and procedures that are crucial to further understanding of our world, such as a kindergartner learning the ABC’s, which is required for understanding of literature and writing. The process is linearly progressive, and missing a step will limit the ability to understand further content. This is why education generally works by grades, and as the student matures to gain conceptual understanding and abstract thoughts, so does the content become more intense and potentially controversial.

Education, while important for its intellectual benefits, also equips each student with a general understanding of social norms. The schooling system is a place where students of each age are grouped together and, under many occasions, must work together, in groups, to solve a problem. This encourages socialization and collaborative efforts that will be very useful later on in a career setting. Rules of the classroom also directly suggest to the students what to do and what not to do, giving them the idea of which behavior is desirable as opposed to which that could lead to negative consequences. Parenting can only cover so much, and generally students must learn how to behave with other people by being placed in an environment among them.

Aside from the direct benefits that the student reaps from education, we must also consider what everyone else gains from this. A proper and successful education provides potential colleges and universities with your own form of verification that you are prepared to take education to the next level. Employers will also likely look at a strong education with a lot of favor (however this does not necessarily guarantee a particular occupation).

From each of these reasons it is clearly shown how important and optimal education is for each new student coming into the confusing and fast-paced world. It is not something that can simply be avoided, and it provides the schematics for every adolescent’s entry into society. Without a proper and well-defined education, someone might find themselves a fish out of water in this accelerated world. The boundaries through schooling are endless, it just takes an innovative person to explore them and always gain new knowledge.
