Knowing what you know now, what is one piece of advice you'd share with younger students? by samia - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

One piece of advice that I would like to share with the younger students is to consult few people when they‘re taking some important decision of their life. I have experienced that although it’s a good think to trust oneself and act independently and make wise choices in our life on your own, but sometimes when taking important decisions if we share the thought with somebody who is older, wiser and sincere with you always gives you a better insight and new perspective on the decision that you are in the process of making. That is why it’s a proven fact that two heads are better than one. Two people thinking and reflecting on a single situation and notion will bring two different dimensions to the thought. Then we can look into the pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses and review and revise to make the best decision. The important decisions of one’s life like your career, your choice of life partner, your selection of jobs always demands proper attention and deep thinking to reach the conclusion and suitable decision.
As you must have experienced that we have counselors in the schools and universities who have the expertise to dig deeper into one's interests and likes for the selection of suitable courses that leads to your career path. These advisers and counsellors deal with multiple students on the daily basis to help them take a right and practical decision about the selection of courses according to their individual interests and aptitude.

Similarly, if you will involve the true, positive minded people in this process then it will definitely end up in some practical decision that will have a stronger impact in your life. The decisions taken single-handedly in a rush or without any deliberations are usually hasty and wrong ones. The lessons that we learn from these wrong decision through the “hard way” is to learn from our mistakes and try not to repeat these faults in future.

The young students usually take the important decisions of their lives without involving their elders and parents. One of my friends instantly took a decision to marry her class-fellow as they both got impressed with each other love on the first sight thing. They married in haste and later on within a week they realized that their decision was wrong as the first impression was very misleading for both of them. They tried to compromise but nothing worked out as they never sought the blessings of elders in this relationship and soon got separated. They both lost to keep track of their college degrees because of their early, untimely marriage and could not reverse the clock to get back to education. The time gone is gone and it’s really hard to turn the tide and time back.

This real single story is a life lesson for all the teenage students who undergo these sensitive times when they make wrong decisions and then regret for the loss of time for the rest of their lives. It is good to learn these hard lessons of life from someone’s bitter experiences.
