Historical Figures by Samantha - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

Many people would love and cherish the opportunity to have dinner with a historical figure. Myself included. If I was given the chance to have dinner with a historical figure, I would want to have dinner with Rosa Parks.
If anyone knew who I chose, they would automatically ask, "Why her?" or, "Why not someone else?" However, these people are the reason why I chose her. When I think of historical figures, I don't think of past presidents, leaders of countries, or people ranked high in the military. To me, those people are too glorified. Rosa Parks, however, was just an ordinary girl on a bus one day. She was just trying to uphold her rights as a United States citizen who felt that segregation was wrong. And yet, she was punished for it. For sitting down on a bus. And after they told her to move, she told them no because she was supposed to have the same rights as everyone else was allowed to have. These rights were taken away from her even before she was born. She did something to stop the hateful crimes to her and all other people that weren't treated the same as everyone else.
To me, Rosa Parks is an inspiration. She knew that segregation was wrong, so she fought it. I aspire to be like her one day and stand up for feminism. Feminism right now is a huge controversy because many men and women think that women are already treated the same. But honestly, men and women are NOT treated the same way at all. It could take 2 days or it could take 2 years. I feel that this will be overcome, given time. Just like segregation was. And Rosa Parks was one of the reasons why the heinous act of segregation was ended.
Rosa parks is truly an inspiration and I would love to be able to engage in a conversation with her about what she was feeling in that moment and, if she could change anything that she did or how she handled the situation.
