Brushing My Future: Pursuing a BS in Dental Hygiene by Samantha - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

Graduating high school with a 4.1 GPA was a significant milestone for me, but it was just the beginning of my educational journey. My next goal is to attend college and pursue a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. This goal is deeply personal and rooted in my own experiences and struggles, particularly those related to the way my teeth looked when I was younger.

Throughout my childhood and early teenage years, I was often bullied because of my teeth. This bullying took a toll on my self-esteem, making me feel insecure and self-conscious about my appearance. I remember feeling reluctant to smile or speak up in class, fearing judgment and ridicule. These experiences were painful and isolating, but they also sparked a determination within me to change the narrative of my life.

In high school, I began to focus on the art and science of dentistry. I was fascinated by how dental professionals could transform smiles and improve the health and confidence of their patients. Learning about the intricate techniques and tools used in dental care inspired me to take better care of my own teeth and seek professional help to correct my dental issues. This journey was not just about improving my appearance; it was about reclaiming my confidence and learning to love myself.

As I started to see the positive changes in my smile, I also noticed a significant boost in my self-esteem. I began to participate more actively in school activities and social events, no longer hiding behind a closed mouth. This transformation made me realize the profound impact that dental hygiene can have on a person's life. It was then that I discovered my passion for dental hygiene and my desire to help others experience the same positive changes.

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene is more than just a career choice for me; it is a calling. I am eager to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to become a registered dental hygienist. I want to help others achieve healthier smiles and improve their overall well-being. I envision myself working in a dental office, providing compassionate care, educating patients on proper oral hygiene, and performing procedures that enhance their dental health.

My ultimate goal is to make a difference in people's lives by helping them gain confidence and love their smiles. I want to support those who, like me, have struggled with dental issues and self-esteem. By becoming a registered dental hygienist, I will be able to give back to my community and empower others to take control of their oral health.

In conclusion, my next educational goal of pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene is deeply rooted in my personal experiences and the transformative journey I have undergone. I am committed to achieving this goal and excited about the future opportunities it holds. By becoming a registered dental hygienist, I will not only fulfill my passion but also help others embrace their smiles and lead healthier, more confident lives.
