Queen Elizabeth I of England is an undeniable leader in my eyes. I did a research essay about Queen Elizabeth I during my junior year. It was my first serious research essay I had ever been assigned to do. I chose Queen Elizabeth I to write about due to her Speech to the Troops at Tilbury. She demonstrated great ambition, knowledge, and independence. Three of the most important aspects of leadership.
I admired her fearlessness and ambition to win a war that seemed to favor their opposing warriors. This ambition she has was the first thing I noticed about her leadership skills. It reminds me of myself, as a first generation, independent student who has to succeed in college despite everything being against my favor. Because of my research of Queen Elizabeth I through multiple books and a few credible websites, I was able to take her values and illuminate them within myself to become who I am today. I want to be a great leader like Queen Elizabeth I and I believe I can successfully become one with the help of this scholarship. I want to defeat my enemies by proving to everyone that I can graduate as a first generation, independent student despite my bloodline encouraging me not to. She had defeated her enemies who told her she’d never win, and I am determined to do the same.
When was a very determined ruler and leader, despite being a royal female, she had still learned to read and write. I find myself to be similar to Queen Elizabeth I because despite my background and environment, I still remain knowledgeable, striving to have the opportunity to get an education unlike my ancestors and family members. As a first generation, independent student I believe that I can change the trajectory of not only my own life but the lives of my younger family members and future descendants just like how Queen Elizabeth I had. But I can only do so through my dependence on this scholarship.
She was the first female ruler who remained independent and I will be the first person in my family to succeed in college as a first generation, independent student. Queen Elizabeth I had many people tell her she needed to get married to be successful and many people have told me that I need to be from a successful family in order to achieve anything in life. But much like Queen Elizabeth I I had to decide for myself that I can be my own successor and I can be my own inspiration. Queen Elizabeth I inspires me to inspire myself. To be my own scholar. To change the uneducated path of my family with the financial assistance of this generous scholarship.
