Importance of Communication by Samantha - August 2018 Scholarship Essay
If I were asked to pretend I had a popular education podcast, the topic of my podcast would be public speaking and communications. The reason this would be my topic is because communication is an everyday thing. Similar to how we need food and water to survive, we also need communication. Communication is how we sustain living, express our feelings, and make memories.
First and for most, communication is how we survive. If we weren’t able to communicate, we wouldn’t be able to get the things we need. Even as a baby, we communicate. We make noises, sounds, or cry in order to get our caregiver’s attention. As we age, and our words start to become more annunciated, we can simply say what we need. Regardless of the age we are, we will always need things and being able to communicate is important. If we sit there and hope people will read our minds, our needs won’t be met.
Secondly, communication is how we express our feelings. In my previous paragraph I mentioned how people cannot read minds. If an individual is up or angry, we cannot expect the other party to know how we feel without verbally expressing it. If someone I know does something outstanding, they aren’t going to know I’m proud of them unless I tell them. Often times we just hope people know what we are feeling and thinking, but in reality, that doesn’t usually happen. To be on the safe side, make sure you always respectfully say how you feel.
Lastly, communications is how we make memories. Can you imagine how boring it would be sitting in a room full of people and not saying a word? That would be absolutely boring! Personally, sitting on your electronic devices “making memories” is boring too. I think the best type of memories are the ones where you speak aloud and share stories with one another. Verbal communication allows for laughs, wonderful conversations, and memories that can last a lifetime. We as people cherish memories and keep them close to us until the day we die, so a big thanks to the alphabet allowing us to make usable words!
In conclusion, I would like to emphasize that an educational podcast on communication would be only beneficial. Communication allows for us to do important tasks such as: sustain living, express our feelings, and make memories. Without communication, the world would be a hectic place that screamed chaos everywhere you looked.
