Financial Independence Should be a Required Class by Samantha - June 2018 Scholarship Essay

Financial Independence is a class that prepares students for the real world. For instance, one learns how to write checks, use credit cards, what credit scores are, file taxes, and invest. As a result, Financial Independence should be a required class for High School Seniors because it provides many life skills that are necessary for adulthood.
Even though, writing checks may seem an unnecessary skill to know today, they are needed for bank purposes or donations. Also, credit cards are significant item that adults need to know how to use correctly. It is necessary to know the difference between credit and debit cards. The class teaches one which situation is best to use a credit or debit card. In addition, Financial Independence explains what a credit score is and how one can use it to their advantage.
Equally important, completing taxes can be difficult. This class guides one how to complete a tax form. For example, the Form 1040, U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, is one of three forms: 1040 (the "Long Form"), 1040A (the "Short Form"), and 1040EZ (the "Easy Form"). Financial Independence provides information on how to improve your credit score regarding taxes, as well.
Investing is important because one needs to know the correct companies to invest in. Also, diversity is significant while investing. For example, one needs to invest in multiple companies because some provide a higher profit than others.
Clearly, Financial Independence should be a required class for High School Seniors because they learn many life skills that are necessary for adulthood.
