I chose #opportunity because education means to me, at its core, a chance to better oneself. Education is truly the great equalizer. No matter who you are, where you are from, or who your parents are, access to education means that you can define your own life. When provided with a quality education, every student has the opportunity to become something greater.

When I was younger, I didn’t quite understand the importance of education. As far as I was concerned, the only thing that mattered was playing with my friends. As I grew older, however, I began to realize the opportunities that education could provide me. Today’s workforce increasingly requires highly educated employees. Fields that require education also tend to pay well. Students who take their education seriously have the opportunity to not only be financially successful, but also contribute something to society that will long outlast their career.

Although many students may only think of the present, it is important to never forget that we can impact the future. Education not only benefits the individual, but society as whole. When its citizens prosper, the country prospers as well. The opportunity provided by education and the careers that result because of it truly drives this great country. The United States of America is the land of opportunity because of education. Without education, the US would stagnate and fall behind.

Merriam-Webster defines opportunity as "a good chance for advancement or progress." I see education as the very definition of opportunity.
