Advice I Wish I Had Received by Samantha - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

I wish someone would've told me to take school way more seriously and not to get caught up in any drama. In the beginning of my high school career, I fell in with the wrong crowd, and like any 14 year old girl, I wanted to be grown and treated as such. I had my rebellious phase of skipping school and going to parties. It would've been so much easier for me to just go to school and act right throughout all of high school, rather than to desperately try to clean up my act as I realized I'd soon be an adult, on my own. You really have to think about how you wanna live and where you wanna go after high school. It's so foolish to treat your education like a game.

I can promise whatever drama of the week is going on, is not more important than your homework. your grades are the key to your success because colleges really do look at it. If you go to class, apply yourself, and get extra help when you need it you will succeed. I wish this message would have stuck with me because I has to work so hard to rebuild my GPA in my junior year. In my freshman and sophomore years I failed classes and just didn't care enough to go to school because I was reckless and unfocused. It is so important to stay focused and always remind yourself about what kind of life you want to have after high school. I decided I want to be successful and so I was. I separated myself from toxic people and went to school everyday and tried my best.
