The Man Behind the Mouse by Samantha - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

It cannot be denied that there are many influential and interesting people in the world. When asked to choose someone to sit down and eat dinner with my choice was a simple and easy one. I would enjoy spending time with Walt Disney, the man who grew-up but still connected with the child in all of us. I know, he was he creator of Mickey Mouse and the Disney Company so he doesn’t seem like the number one choice for people. However to me, Walt Disney represents confidence, encouragement, and the idea that it’s okay to be a kid every now and then.

One thing that Disney said that inspires me is this quote “ That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.” I believe Walt Disney would be an interesting person to go to lunch with because of his ability to find the fun in situations and easily make me laugh. Many of his co-workers and close friends have said that he was easy going but also serious about his work. He never slacked and was determined to make good family fun. One question I would love to ask Walt Disney would be “ What made you want to become a person who is constantly spreading laughter and joy to people you do not even know?” because I believe that in today’s society it is hard to find people who are constantly spreading a positive message and Walt Disney was a man who spread a very positive message in an appropriate and fun way. I would also ask “What would you say to todays society, men, women, teenagers, and children about following their dreams” because there are so many people today who do not believe in themselves enough to follow what they want to do.

Walt Disney’s perspective on family, fun, and following your dreams have inspired me since I saw my first Disney movie in 1999. While Walt Disney was gone at that time, his legacy lived on. Having dinner with him would be a dream come true and a way to meet a man who continues to inspire and reach so many different people. It would be a dream come true and as Disney says “ If you can dream it, you can do it!”
