Senior Quote by Salim - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
Looking back now I would probably change my senior quote. I would change it to a quote that I heard a friend say to me. "Live your life like most people Don't so that you can spend the rest of your life like most Can't". I loved this quote as soon as I heard it because it describes the person I want to be. All my life especially in high school, I tried to fit in because everyone had their own groups and I wanted a group to call my own. It was always rough because no matter how much I tried I was too different. Everything changed after graduating high school. Nobody cared about high school anymore and most of the people at your college is people you never have seen before. It was like a fresh start all over again. I didn't have to try to fit in because the schedule is so flexible that I can just go home after class ends instead of trying to fit in as I tried to do in high school. The quote describes the person I strive to because now I feel like everyone is trying to live the same lifestyle. Going out to parties, doing drugs and many other crazy things that college students do. I was doing all that before and I really didn't like it anymore. I know the lifestyle and it became very repetitive. It hit me when one of the friends I met through another friend told me his age and I was flabbergasted. He was 22 and while I was 18 at the time. I was shocked because when I look at his lifestyle, he was always out partying and smoking. He was having fun but also I noticed the little details like how he worked at the gas station. He didn't even own a car. I didn't judge him but instead looked into his life and said to myself this is not someone I'm tryna be. I noticed that he was the typical college students whose only concern was with himself. He was focused on the present instead of his future. I want to live my life RIGHT NOW like most people don't so I can spend the rest of my life like most people cant. I will stay up late nights and wake up early to study. I want to spend my Friday and Saturday nights going to the gym or even relearn how to play the piano. I want to be trilingual. I want to be successful and that comes with the sacrifice which includes my time, money, and even close friends. All the successful mentor that I look up to all had to deal with sacrificing their time. They could have gone to a party but instead, they decided to stay home and hone their crafts. This is what the quote means to me. It is a lifestyle I am trying to live.
