Music and Public Speaking: The Positive Correlation by Salem - June 2024 Scholarship Essay
I have always been confident in my public speaking skills. I dedicate this to my love for music. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 7 years old, and began performing on stage when I was 8. Frequently, I watched other bands to learn more about stage presence and apply what I learned when I was on stage. I have been practicing this skill for many years, and am now able to move around freely and talk to the audience naturally. I have done this at all my gigs, including when I played at BeachLife Festival last year.
I’ve noticed that performing on stage and doing class presentations have a correlation. This year, my English class requires many presentations. I’ve had to read book reports, essays, etc., in front of my teacher and peers. I have never been nervous during these presentations; in fact, I am very comfortable when I have to present. My confidence from my stage performance has helped me achieve good grades on these assignments, as my teacher dedicates a sufficient amount of points to the fluidity of the presentations. I am very grateful that my love for being on stage has helped better my academic success.
