The Power of Education - A Mission to Share Knowledge and Foster Grownth. by Saige - August 2024 Scholarship Essay

Education has always been incredibly valuable to me. It is one of the things I cherish most. When I first learned that I would be moving to Tampa, Florida, in the middle of my junior year, my biggest concern was my education. I was worried about whether I’d have good teachers, how I would manage a new curriculum, and if I’d be able to keep up. I spent most of my time spiraling into self-deprecating thoughts.

It wasn’t until my third day at Sickles High School that I realized my stress was unnecessary. Every teacher I encountered had the utmost patience, care, and respect for all their students. I could tell that this wasn’t just a job for them; it was a passion. This made my love for learning grow immensely. I became immersed in the curriculum and looked forward to learning new things every day.

When posed with the question of what my next big educational goal is, it was my teachers who helped me come to this conclusion: my next big goal is to reciprocate what I was given. I want to share my knowledge with others. Education is a blessing that everyone should have the opportunity to experience. I want to make it my mission to spread as much knowledge as possible.

For example, at Sickles High School, there is a 5% Black student population. Many are uninformed about the histories of Black Americans. I made it my goal to educate the students at Sickles High School about all aspects of Black American life. Since then, I have started the Black Advisory Council and Allies, where we foster student growth and development through academics, community service, cultural enrichment, and outreach. We provide an opportunity for students of all races to celebrate, learn more about, and appreciate cultural differences, lifestyles, and history.

Education is a blessing, and my goal is to ensure everyone has the privilege of accessing it.
