College is the next step you are supposed to take after graduating high school. You do your best to get good grades so you can get a good job and live a good life. That is what our society has come to recognize as success. But I have a different opinion.

I think that college is not just about your grades and achievements. Sure, those may be important but there is so much more to the college experience than that. I believe that college is about discovering who you are and what you stand for. College is about making those life-long friends that will someday be in your wedding. College is about having fun, making mistakes, and just living your life.

To me, college is the first step down the path of self-discovery. You leave for college as a young adult without much experience in the “real world”. For the first time, you are completely on your own. You have to start figuring things out for yourself and you cannot solely rely on your parents anymore. As you mature throughout the four years of college, you start to discover who you are as a person. You learn about your strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, goals and dreams. You begin the life-long process of learning, growing, and functioning as an adult.
Success is about growth. It is about learning from your failures and overcoming obstacles. It is about perseverance and always trying to be the best version of yourself.

If I can continue to learn and grow throughout my four years of college, then I will consider that to be success!!
