Lifelong Learning by Sabrina - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

As a college student whose mission is to become an educator, I consider myself to have a passion for learning. Technically defined, a passion is a feeling of intense enthusiasm towards or compelling desire for someone or something. In regards to education, it describes that of a lifelong learner, commonly seen as an adult that enjoys learning about new subjects without the guidance of an academic figurehead or the pressure of earning a grade. They seek information about topics they enjoy simply for the pleasure of discovery. Lifelong learners also see the importance of academic knowledge in accompaniment with additional topics, realizing what is taught in school creates the foundation for living a successful life.
I view myself as a lifelong learner for a number of reasons. First, I truly enjoy school, no matter the subject I am tasked with learning. Ranging from chemistry to calculus, I see the importance of academic knowledge; even with no direct application to ordinary situations, more difficult concepts lead to a higher level of thinking and a greater depth of understanding necessary for an individual to further their education. Additionally, I choose to pursue a greater depth of knowledge relating to subjects that interest me, both academic and otherwise. One of my favorite topics to discover more about is Disney; from theme parks to animated movies, Disney is something that brings my whole family together, adding a little more magic to the world each day. Even after I have completed my education, I will continue to have a passion for education, allowing it to enrich my life for years to come.
