The Freedom To Be Me by Saba - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

College is meant to be a time of wonderful encounters: new friends, great education and classes, and overall freedom. I believe that freedom is what will give me a glorious new perspective. I’ll be looked at as an adult. Any mistakes I make will be mine and any achievements I have will be mine. There will be no one to tell me when to go to bed and no one to tell me that I’ve been in bed too long watching Netflix. That freedom of living in a dorm, being responsible for my food and laundry, creating memorable experiences with no restrictions is what will give me the ultimate college life. I can just picture myself staying in my pajamas, studying for my next exam while blasting my music. Drinking coffee just to stay awake to study and hang out with friends. What a wondrous time that’ll be.

To have a well rounded college experience, I have to be able to be myself. I have to be able to spread my wings to discover who I am. That may be a struggle but it’s the best shot I’ve got. I have to just go for it. The freedom to have the ability to find myself, become who I want to be, and fulfill that dream will be the most rewarding feeling.

I’m thankful that I will have the ability to go to college to become my own person. I’m thankful that I’ll be able to make my own choices. I’m thankful that that freedom will lead to my success. I’m thankful to be able to eventually have a college experience and have the ability to express myself where creativity is wanted and hard work is rewarded. I’m thankful that I will have the freedom to be me.
