Thinking Differently by Rylee - October 2018 Scholarship Essay

"Thinking outside the box" is a term we here so often in school. Its main purpose is to encourage creativity in my school environment. "Thinking outside the box" means so much more to be than how I should apply the saying to make my project prettier or my writing sound more interesting. I believe that it means to think of how something will impact others. A speech may effect the person on my right in a different way from the person on my left. Our words, actions, and thoughts are so powerful we could change the way someone view themselves and how they perceive the world around us.

One of my favorite quotes states, "Discovery consists of looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different" from Albert Szent-Gyorgyn. We think differently than others and that makes it possible for us to come up with new ideas and ways that we can change something bigger than ourselves. "Thinking outside the box" has something to do with creativity and I agree. But, I believe that it means to also think bigger than ourselves and our community and work for a change we want to see. Change starts within each of us.
