Varsity Tutors Scholarship Essay - Morning Person by Ryan - January 2019 Scholarship Essay

There are only a few sounds in life that strike me right to my core: silverware scratching on a plate, my parents yelling my full name, and my alarm clock. Whenever I hear that dreadful sound, I know I have to get up from my cozy and comfortable bed. However, it’s a necessary evil. My answer to the proposed question is that I am undoubtedly a morning person. The morning is filled with potential and excitement, while the night brings resolution and finality to the day.
Have you ever slept in way past what you had originally planned for? I have. It’s an awful realization. Whenever I sleep in too much, I feel unproductive and useless. This starts my day off on the wrong note, and I feel that it sets an unproductive tone for the rest of the day. On the other hand, when I wake up early, I feel that I get a jump on the day. For example, I often times try to wake up around an hour to two hours before I need to leave for school. This provides me with enough adequate time to make breakfast, shower, and even homework that I did not finish the day prior. Last but certainly not least, another reason I enjoy mornings so much is because I like how nature looks in the early morning. Sometimes when I have enough time, I’ll go out for a walk around my neighborhood. The red gleams of sunshine and birds chirping help to soothe any anxiety or stress that I have at the time. Admiring the beauty of the early morning helps to put myself in the right state of mind for the upcoming day.
For the second part of the question, I believe that I am more productive in the morning because there are less people awake. This helps to keep me on track and to not stray away from my intended school work. With less people awake, there is a smaller chance that I will be taken away from what I want to do. For example, during the evening, my time of productivity can be interrupted by family members or friends online. Knowing that I won’t be interrupted in the morning gives me reassurance that I can focus on my school work and not worry about any external factors. Another reason for why I believe that I am more productive in the morning is that none of my favorite sports teams are playing. This is a big bonus for me, because I find it nearly impossible to do school work while an important game is on.
To conclude, I feel that I am more of a morning person than a night owl. I find mornings to be more important than nights, because it helps to set the tone for the rest of the day. It also helps to provide me with an environment that I feel most comfortable in for doing school work. Even though I dread hearing that alarm clock sound in the morning, I find comfort in knowing that I can start my day off right with a productive morning.
