Children of all ages come across different experiences when it comes to school learning. I believe teachers and parents are key aspects of the growth of a child’s learning process. Children can not thrive in their learning journey without motivation and support. When they have an adult to guide them, children can learn to build healthy relationships, excel in school, and learn to become independent as they grow. I believe teachers have a big impact on each of their student's education.
At a young age, I've always had a piqued interest in becoming a teacher. I've never known the reason behind my career choice, but recently I've realized why. This is a result of my positive childhood interactions with teachers. As the first child, I didn’t have the many opportunities my younger siblings receive now. I didn’t get help from my Hispanic parents with homework or any school assignments because they never received the same education as me. Technology had recently developed and was a challenge along the way, mostly for my parents. Today, my siblings have me, their oldest sister, as their tutor to help guide them through Zearn, I-Ready, Razkids, or any app they utilize. Throughout my education, my parents found various ways to support me by taking the time to communicate with my teachers (alongside a translator) and being involved in every school event. My father and my mother would both reach out to my teachers whenever I was struggling and needed a mentor to guide me. Today, I can proudly say that every teacher I have had from kindergarten to this day has truly made a positive impact on my education as well as the support of my parents, allowing my love for teaching to grow.
When I become a teacher, I plan to make a difference, even if it’s a slight classroom difference. I want to inspire all my students. I aim to build a bright future not only for myself but for children at a young age. I will utilize my abilities and attributes to make young potential leaders strive for their ambitions and goals. By becoming an educator, my purpose is for my students to understand the importance of education and how they can use it to give back to their community with their given strengths.
As a Liberal studies major, the Liberal Arts approach will positively impact my journey as a student. So far, the introduction to the liberal arts approach has allowed me to expand my knowledge and understanding of the humanities, social science, and natural science disciplines. These disciplines will enable me to redefine my perspective and the perspective of others, whether or not I agree with them. As a student, I can begin to critique ideas or ideologies that I perceive throughout my college education. I will receive the opportunity to engage in coursework that will be expansive in knowledge and expose me to distinct ideas, issues, and or processes. The Liberal arts approach allows me to build a strong foundation in a wider range of subjects rather than specializing in a single one. It will allow me to broaden the intellectual minds of a classroom setting and utilize the social science, natural science, and humanities disciplines.
