The world is more accessible due to people being able to travel farther and faster, jobs are easier with automation, and health is improved due to better medicinal technology. However, the biggest innovation is in communication with email, telephones, and social media. Social media has allowed people to share information, aspects of their lives, and other things with each other. These new ways of communication, especially social media, have a huge affect on learning as well. Social media has both advantages, and disadvantages in a student’s school career.

There are many benefits that social media gives to school and learning. It allows students to have access to more information that would help them in their studies. This would increase knowledge and allow them to have a wider perspective to fully flesh out their knowledge. Social media also helps students collaborate and work together. Collaboration is extremely important for the developing students. It teaches them that some problems can’t be faced alone. It also allows them to practice the collaboration students will most likely use when they get into the work space. Social media can connect students with teachers easier. Students could get more help with subjects they do not understand or tutoring opportunities.

Along with the advantages of social media, it has many disadvantages when it comes to learning. With social media, students would be more prone to cheat. All of these students would have to do is post assignments or send them over. Unless viewed directly by teachers, there would be no consequences in doing so. Social media could also distract students from their studies. This is apparent with social media. It is a form of stimulant and like any stimulant, it can take over everything else if given too much attention. Social media has been shown to negatively affect the mental health of its users. If the mental health declines, then students would not be able to focus on school.

The lives of humans on Earth have changed forever. People travel faster and farther, jobs are done more efficiently, and people are leading longer and healthier lives. People also have been able to interact with each other way more than in the past. Social media is largely responsible for increasing communication. Social media has also had many effects on school.
