BEYOND THE CLASSROOM by Rudrakshi - September 2024 Scholarship Essay

I live in India, a place where education mostly is limited inside schools. I barely know anyone doing extracurriculars like nonprofits or volunteering works. But I wanted to change that, beyond school I volunteer at online nonprofits and even has started one - "Hope Guardians". The main motive of my nonprofit is to raise awareness about Self harm and suicidal thoughts among teenagers. We conduct free peer supports sessions and provide a magazine corner for people to share their healing journey stories. It’s like safe place, a place to come back to whenever there’s something wrong. Beside from my own nonprofit I work at many others too. I read novels, I create drawings and do roller skating.I try to learn something new online, even though my preferred college major is computer science but I want to learn even beyond that so I work at different organisations like related to business and finance, health related, journalism related and astronomy related. My unusual way of learning is whenever I lose focus I sit on the cold ground and study by pretending like I’m teaching someone or just learning it by actually saying it. And other way is through Podcasts and You Tube videos , these digital audio broadcasts and videos, have become my go-to source for knowledge, entertainment, and inspiration. They offer a unique and flexible way to acquire information on a wide range of topics, from history and science to philosophy and personal development. They are very easily accessible and I can listen to it or watch it whenever I feel like without feeling overwhelmed .
