Incoming Freshmen by Ruby - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

High school is a struggling place for most because of the rigorous workload, but also can be balanced with an enjoyable experience. About 86% of teens enjoy their high school years and 14% struggle with high school. I believe a school’s environment and a student’s willingness affects their experience. To be a successful student and have an amazing experience, students should be themselves and not feel pressured. A piece of advice to incoming freshmen would be don’t worry about others, but yourself. Focusing on yourself, going your own speed, and overcoming social pressure is key to being successful in high school.

Incoming freshmen should be their own unique person who focus on themselves and their grades. High school will be filled with several distractions such as gossip, relationships, and friends. It is crucial to be on top of your assignments because in a blink of an eye your grades can be affected. All the rumors and gossip will slow down your learning process because it will be on your mind. The average high school relationship lasts about two years or less. It is not worth losing time that could be used to study for your classes or for homework. It is also important to know how to pick your friends. There are different types of friends and they could affect you. These types of distractions are all over the average high school.

In high school, there are several courses that you can enroll in. There are some rigorous courses and others where little effort is needed. Everyone has their own pace and know what they are capable of. There are numerous amounts of pressure because sometimes you want to take the same courses as your friends. They could be higher or lower and it could affect you. It’s important to know what you can handle. Do not overtake hard courses if you can’t handle the workload. Be your own person and work at your pace.

During the whole high school experience, there are several social pressures that teens go through. It is essential to overcome it because it affects your perspective on things. Having the pressure of becoming the “popular one” or the “smart one”, can affect your academic high school performance. Do not focus on trying to fit in because it will drive you away from the actual reason you go to school for. Instead of worrying about fitting in, you should express the real you. You should feel more confident because it will boost your academics. Other social pressures involve bad decisions like drugs. These type of pressures should be ignored and be removed from your life. To have a better experience, try to overcome these to have a great outcome.
Although high school can be challenging, it can be an interesting experience. A school’s environment and the student’s readiness impacts their experience. To ensure that the incoming freshmen will have a great experience, they should not be worried and be themselves. A piece of advice would be to focus on yourself, go your own speed, and overcome social pressures.
