Opportunities Await by Roy - October 2024 Scholarship Essay

As I leave high school, I must look to my future. I think of a big house, a happy family, and a job that I love. The first step in pursuing that future is going to college. College offers a variety of different opportunities for me going forward. Between the experiences, studies, and lessons learned at college, it gives students an experience that they will never receive anywhere else. However, the most important of those opportunities is a college degree.
In America today, there are millions of available job opportunities waiting to be taken. Without a college degree, that number is nearly cut in half. Any college degree shows employers that you are a responsible and hardworking person. There are several jobs that will not hire you if you have not earned a college degree regardless of your situation. This greatly decreases the chances of you getting a well-paying job.
You can also go to college to get specific degrees for specific jobs. For example, it is nearly impossible to get any job in the medical field if you do not receive a medical degree or go to medical school. College prepares you for these jobs so you can not only work but do your best work. Going to college and choosing a degree to pursue gives you a choice. Without a degree, you don’t have much of a choice at all. You will have very limited options when it comes to job opportunities and the pay will also be much lower.
Overall, not getting a college degree can start a domino effect that negatively impacts your life. You will receive less pay, less choice, and fewer opportunities without a degree. So, if I want the future that I envision, with my house and happy family, I will be smart, and pursue a college degree.
