Science Rules! by Romee - August 2023 Scholarship Essay
During my senior year of high school, my local science museum was holding a contest to design an exhibit for the public. A group of people from my senior capstone class decided to enter. The experience realized that teaching people about science led to one of my future career options.
Coming up with an idea was the hardest part because we did not know what kind of topics would have the most engagement. After days of brainstorming, we decided on an exhibit about the human cell. The room would be a replica of a human cell along with interactive organelles to teach the public about cells. This soon became a passion project because I wanted people to enhance their knowledge about cells. After all, it is the building block to all things living. Unfortunately, our exhibit was not selected, however, this led me to want to pursue public health.
During the creation of the exhibit, my passion for wanting to inform the public about diseases and other preventive health measures was bubbling. It was a way to help people but not from a doctor’s standpoint. Especially with the global pandemic, I respected the public health field even more because they were the ones to receive data and inform us about stopping the spread.
In conclusion, a school project that I needed for a grade became one of my greatest academic achievements as it gave the museum ideas for the future but also helped narrow my future career on being in the public health field.
