The Circle of Life by Rollin - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

Words have a lot of meaning, they build countries, start wars, create people and destroy them. There are a lot of words I could use to describe my wish to attend college. One night I sat outside staring into the night sky filled with infinite stars. I began thinking about creation. Mufasa wasn’t just preaching to the choir in, The Lion King when he was speaking of the circle of life. We were all created and one of the greatest things we can experience is to create. I am going to college because of what it creates.
My favorite part of creation, at college, is understanding. I have always been intrigued by this feeling every time I learn something new. I love this feeling because every time I learn something, a new pathway is created in my mind. I feel as if I have gained an incredible new power like a weak person who has become strong. The process of understanding creates doors. These doors lead on to new roads and pathways in my mind that I had never imagined possible. It begins as a seed and then grows into a vast tree of knowledge. However, I struggle with opening these doors on my own. With the help of teachers and peers, doors open up to me at an exponential rate.
One great thing about our time is that we are not stuck on a prairie in Africa living out the same lifestyle generation after generation. We are in an age of creation. New devices and ideas are generated almost every day. I am at college because nothing in this world could offer me more at this time than the creation that it offers. At some point in my life, I will fall subject to the circle of life. I will pass from this life, but until that day comes, I will create.
