My Goal and Interest by Roland - August 2017 Scholarship Essay

I lived most my youth life in the western part of Africa, specifically Nigeria. And later at 19 years old I immigrated with my family to United States. I am currently 24 years old. I was raised in a supportive and, disciplined family.
I have always aspired for achievement in the financial industry. Warren buffet is my role model and inspiration. Being a Taurus (April 29), it has been in our characteristic to be determined, persistent, reliable, warm hearted, and patient. As the saying goes "A patient dog eats the fattest bone. "My greatest personal interest (currency trading) has being my drive to pursue a career in economic science. I have being a retail currency speculative trader for about 2 years, and going through the challenge of buying low, selling high and vice versa, to make profit and minimize losses have being a challenge that fits my personality. Waking up in the morning and one of the first question that crosses my mind is: how is the market going to perform today? That makes me pay attention to specific details; Look at indices, economic calendar for past and upcoming events, watching for breaking news, doing technical analysis and try to weight all these information together to forecast future prices. The merit of trading is not only about making a profit at the closing of a trade, but how that trade has influenced you. I ask myself a very important question after every trade; Was I consistent?, because with consistency comes long term success.

Nursing has made a big influence in my life and way of thinking. I obtained my license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in May 2014. From 2014 to present I have been working at a skilled nursing facility here in West Palm Beach. Being a nurse for 2 years+ I have developed as a person, enhanced my critical thinking skills, and most importantly as someone who has a reserved personality has improved my interaction with people of different ages and walks of life including patients and their family whether in educating them or discussing their plan of care.

My love for endurance sports; Basketball and Soccer; are what gets me going. I guess that and keeping myself hydrated are the secrets that have kept me out of the doctors’ office as much as possible. After every game, I feel much relaxed and refreshed. Games have improved my team spirit and also a source of recreation and a way to stay stress free. A Miami heat fan.

Staying positive, working hard and being patient is what got me to the point I am now and I intend to stay consistent and healthy. I am certain that my education continuation will be a big step towards achieving my goal.
