My Love of Youth and Higher Education by Roberta - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

My name is Roberta Robinson and my love of youth, and seeing them succeed is one of the things that I find most fulfilling in life. I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership Studies and am pursuing a Master of Educational Leadership in Higher Education Administration. I am passionate about youth development and the power higher education holds in enhancing it. I truly have a heart for young people and a passion for seeing them realize their true purpose in life and rise to their fullest potential. I have worked with children and teens for most of my life, in church and in the public school system. I actually began working with younger children when I was a youth myself. I have always felt drawn to this area of service, and know that this is where it is meant for me to focus my energy. This passion is what eventually drew me to, and has kept me in the field of higher education for the past eleven years.

Obtaining my master’s degree is just part of that pursuit of excellence. As I continue my journey, my hope is that my knowledge and experience, my passion for youth development, and my education, will all come together in a way that makes me a better community leader and a better higher education professional. I plan to take courses in pursuit of this degree knowing that a deeper study of leadership from a higher education perspective will enhance my ability to support our students, many of whom are first-generation college students and are unfamiliar with what it takes to be successful. This is so important since it is my job to promote the benefits of the pursuit of higher education to others.

As higher education professionals, we must be prepared to assist students with the new challenges that they may be facing in pursuit of their degrees and I believe a deeper study of this field will provide me with the essential tools needed to do just that.
