The One Thing Everyone Needs by Rina - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
Teachers are the most influential people in the world. They are the ones who not only teach math and other subjects but they are the ones who have the power to positively shape and influence their students. I was fortunate enough to have gone to and graduated from North Medford High School, where every teacher I had knew they had the opportunity to have a positive impact in my life. To give credit only to one teacher for the most important lesson I learned would be impossible because so many teachers have taught me this lesson. Without teachers like, Mr. McKinney, Mr. Warren, or Ms. Lane, I would not have learned that kindness is the most important characteristic a person should have.
Throughout my time at North Medford, they taught me that I can start to make the world a better place by showing kindness, one person at a time. Mr. Warren taught me this by showing me kind things people had done for others in the history classes he taught. He also taught me that no matter what society thinks, the kind thing is always the right thing to do. Mr. McKinney showed me that no matter what language people speak, everyone understands kindness and can speak kindness through their actions. Ms. Lane taught me through her smiles and her genuinely positive attitude that simple kindness through a smile can be leave as big of an impact as doing a grand gesture of kindness.
Because of these teachers, I learned how important kindness is. Through their example I learned that I don’t need to be the next Nobel Peace Prize winner to have an impact on the world. They encouraged me to show kindness to everyone, regardless of whether or not they were kind to me. These teachers played a big role in shaping me into who I am today. I want to do whatever I can to help others and I want to make a difference in the world. They showed me that I can accomplish this one person and one kind act at a time.
