10 Years From Now by Rilynn - March 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ten years from now, I see myself working as a speech-language pathologist in a school setting, helping students overcome communication challenges. Alongside my career, I also hope to be a track coach, using my experience as a collegiate athlete to mentor young runners both on and off the track.
My education at Ashland University is the foundation that will help me achieve my goals. As an intervention specialist major, I am gaining knowledge and supporting diverse learners, understanding their needs. This background will be valuable as I pursue graduate school in speech pathology, where I will learn more about language development and speech disorders.
Being a student-athlete has taught me discipline, time management, and perseverance, all qualities that benefit me in both my academic and professional studies. Track has been a huge part of my life, and I hope to continue that passion by coaching future athletes, sharing my experiences, and helping them grow both in their sport and life.
My education is preparing me to make a meaningful impact in students’ lives, whether through speech therapy, special education, or coaching. I am excited to continue learning, growing, and working towards a future where I can help others overcome obstacles and achieve their own goals.
