My dream job by Riley - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

Growing up in the generation of technology has made who I am today. Technology now has so much influence and control over society and it is only going to increase as new advances are made every day. My first glimpse of the technology in the world was my tiny Nintendo DS. I became a normal consumer of the goods Nintendo had to offer, eventually branching out to other consoles and methods of playing games. It was during this exploration of playing games where I found my passion.
I had heard so much word on these so-called “gaming computers,” oven-like boxes with hardware so intelligent any game could run. On the web and in the operating system, a user had limitless power. At this point, my interest in computers began to grow, watching videos of technicians building these monster machines that could process anything. At the age of 14, I began to save up for one of my biggest investments I have made to date, my first gaming computer. For months I worked on it, with almost no help from others, I resorted to google. I learned so much on my own doing research on computers and how to get them running at their apex. I had a blast building my own monster machine independently and getting it to run at its peak. I was more than satisfied with my computer that I built from the case up.
Although my computer is nowhere near the best in the world, the experience alone has gotten me hooked. I will be pursuing computer engineering in college. I hope to build the parts that go into computers, and to work with the hardware that at one point was mythical to me. By creating parts, I would expect to inspire others along the way to maintain an interest in the constantly growing computer technology.
